My name is Rai,
I started my career as a BMX rider on the Chilean Olympic team, but everything changed when I decided to take a loan from the bank to invest in my first mountain bike.
That ride ignited a new passion, a new reason to breathe and it changed my life's direction. I packed up and moved to British Columbia, Canada, to become a professional mountain biker.
I thought sponsors would just come to me, but I realized it was harder than I thought. That's because brands only approach the top performing (elite) athletes.
The rest of us great athletes need to approach brands to become sponsored.
I spent 3 months researching, building proposals and connecting with brands and after getting a lot of 'no's or not hearing back from brands, I knew I needed to get better at getting sponsors.
That's also when Euge came into my life. She helped me clarify my athlete identity, communicate my message clearly and build a structured pitch deck that had purpose.
After sending in my new pitch deck to a brand I admired, I finally got an email that changed my life…
BansheeBikes responded to me and said Yes!
They told me that they loved my approach, my story and my goals…and that they wanted to support me with a full bike! (hello free bike!)
One year later I was fully sponsored, with 3 bikes, full gear and a budget to compete in DH world cups as a privateer.
